Basic Equipment for Fly Fishing

1.Fly – It is the one tied to the hook and used as a bait. It weighs very little. Some fly fishers also use live bait like crayfish, minnow, bloodworms and leeches. But most of fly fishers use artificial fly that is constructed from various furs, feathers, threads and hooks. Artificial fly is used as imitation of insects on which the fish is feed and because artificial fly is so colorful, it attracts the attention of the fish.

2.Fly rod – It is a device used in sport fishing that made of a long pole with a line held in place alongside it with the use of guides. Fishing rod has many sizes and the longer the rod the greater advantage in casting. There are different types of rod such as carbon fiber rod, fly rod, tenkara rod, IM/Modulus, Spin and bait casting rods, Spinning rods, Ultra-light rods, Ice rods, Sea rods, Surf rod, trolling rod, tand elescopic rod. Modern rods are made of fiberglass and grphite composite. But originally fly rods were made from split Tonkin bamboo, Calcutta reed, or ash wood. Today split Tonkin bamboo rods are still popular in fly fishing.

3.Fly reel – It is used to store fishing lines that help the fisher retrieve and land a hooked fish. This is a solution that is created by the fishers because the fishers wanted to have a more fly line available to cast.

4.Fly line – Fly line is a weighted line that is thrown out into the water at various length and distance. This also comes in densities and tapers. This is the most important part in the delivery system that sends the fly to the fish.

5.Fly hook – Fly hook is where in which the fly is placed on. There are different hooks like dry fly hooks, lure hooks or double hooks.

6.Fly boxes – This is a box where the fisher place the flies. Having a good quality box saves the fishers some money for buying new flying boxes again.

7.Fly fishing clothes – Fly fishing clothes like fishing hat, fishing waistcoat and polaroid sunglasses are very important too because eye protection is needed to protect the eyes from the sun or flying objects that blown by the wind.
